Westfield... So, what is all the fuss about?

default

Now we're not normally ones for fascinating facts, but we have to admit we were mightily impressed with Westfield London's vital stats:

-Place the 96 escalators end to end and they could take  you to the top of Ben Nevis and back down again. All the better for  transporting you round the 265 shops that have opened there  today.

-Look above your head in The Village (that's the  fabulous designer part) and you'll see that 7,000 crystals will make up the  four cascading chandeliers. Oh, and you'll also find stores such as Louis  Vuitton, Mulberry, Dior and Twenty8Twelve in there too.

-There are all sorts of whizzy architectural bits to  look at - from the fabulous roof to staircases that appear to float, a  sculpture of laser-cut acrylic stilettos  suspended in space, and a floor  made from recycled  trainers.

-New label alert! There are 15 brands new to the UK you  won't have seen before - including Abercrombie & Fitch's sister chain  Hollister, Aussie accessory line  Mimco and luxury brand Desa.

-Topshop will be hosting live bands and DJ sets  throughout the weekend (Ebony Bones, Little Boots, Lou Hayter). Spend over £50  and you'll receive a special limited-edition key ring designed by Christopher  Kane.

-It's heaving with ribbon-cutting and Champagne  cork-popping today - with Leona Lewis, Dannii Minogue, Paul Sculfor (Cameron  Diaz's boyf), Yasmin Le Bon, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Twiggy and er, Boris ‘Bojo'  Johnson all turning up to join the party.
