We’re not surprised Prince Harry was going wild in Hvar, Croatia this week. , jumping into the pool at the Veneranda nightclub. A beautiful place like this is enough to make anyone jump for joy (OK, maybe a couple of drinks might have helped too). If you’d not heard of Hvar (pronounced ‘Var’ BTW) before the Harry story, you’re certainly going to. It’s the coolest, hippest place in Croatia and is set to become the next Ibiza (the good bits, that is, without the nasty package tourism).
The island is on the Adriatic coast and you reach it by getting a ferry from the port of Split (it only takes just over an hour if you get the catamaran). Once there base yourself in picturesque Hvar Town, the island’s capital, with it’s Venetian architecture, 16th century cathedral and cute pavement cafés and cobbled streets - so sweet.
But it’s at night that the place really comes alive as Harry found out. Have a cocktail at cool Carpe Diem bar with its chilled out Balleric vibe, then check out the Veneranda nightclub (www.veneranda.hr). Built inside a 16th century fort it has the infamous swimming pool Harry dived into and it’s the place to go in town.
Afterwards sleep at the Hotel Riva, right on the waterfront in the centre of town. Boutique and chic, rooms here cost from €218 per night including breakfast.
