Crete’s chic - No, really!

18 August 2011

Laugh out loud movies, apart from the brilliant Bridesmaids, have been a bit thin on the ground this Summer, so thank goodness for Inbetweeners the Movie. If you liked the Channel 4 series, you’ll love the film, as our inept quartet of awkward sex-obsessed teenagers pack their ‘pussay patrol’ T-shirts and head off to Malia in Crete. Ouch!

But don’t write Crete off as the neon lit, raki soaked dive you see in the movie, as Greece’s biggest island, 260 km long by 60 km wide, there’s plenty of space to escape spotty adolescents on the pull.

We love the brand new Daios Cove resort (www.daioscovecrete.com) with its beautiful spa, gourmet restaurants and its very own private bay, just 10 minutes from the sweet town of Agios Nikolaos. A deluxe room with an ocean view and its own private pool costs from around €1650 for a week.

Or stay in the cute fishing village of Elounda, developed enough to give it a chic edge while losing none of its rustic charm. The Relais & Chateau Elounda Peninsula is a great choice (www.eloundapeninsula.com), an all suite hotel with a Six Senses spa, seven restaurants and private sandy beach - a week  starts from around €3580. The weather's beautiful right and is though the whole of September, with temperatures averaging 25 degrees. What are you waiting for?
