Giles talks travel!

21 July 2011

As an international designer with a jet-set life, Giles Deacon is unsurprisingly FULL of ideas when it comes to travel destinations. So, as part of Giles Week at Grazia Daily, we thought we’d rinse the lovely Mr. D for his top tips when visiting his favourite may-jah fashion cities – the first of which is LA, baby!
Giles is heading to LA later this year for his friend David (Waddington, of Bistrotheque and 88 fame)’s birthday. Grazia Daily noticed that Giles was fingering some Beverley Hills Hotel notepaper, with its deliciously retro logo, and it turns out this is where Mr. D is going to stay. ‘Obviously the hotel is pretty much all pink themed, so we’re going to base our outfits around that’ he said. Sounds ace! And we TOTALLY want pics.

As well as the Beverley Hills Hotel, Giles reveals that he also loves ‘going to the Sunset Tower [above], for drinks and dinner there’. The tower, of course, is an amazing Art Deco building on Sunset Boulevard, which attracted legendary Hollywood stars of the 30s and 40s and after an extensive 2006 restoration now attracts the cream of current Hollywood, including Jennifer Aniston and the Beckhams. And Giles!
And when the frenetic pace of the city becomes too much, ‘I like going down to Malibu, and driving up to Topanga canyon’ (the beautiful park and waterway near Santa Monica which has become a haven for artists and musicians).
‘What I like most about LA’ says Giles, ‘is that you can do a really super fun LA time - you can get to the beach really quickly, and get up into the hills and go hiking really easily. [It’s] a good mix of wilderness and really daft LA. Which I love!'
