Ah, detoxing.... yada yada, yada! When it comes to diets in January, you can take your pick. You can diet like a Cave Man, stockpile Maple Syrup. Dukan? You can! Then what about Tox/Max-ing? (aka detoxing, getting bored, then stuffing your face straight after?)
Too much like hard work? Well right now we're noticing a trend for everyone using their holiday to 'bod up' … flying off somewhere to shape up for Spring while everyone else is shivering in their thermals back home. They're not bootcamps, these holidays are longhaul, exotic and they get results. We're calling these the new 'Exot-tox' (oh yes, we're clever!)
Our all time favourite retreat right now is Uma Paro, in Bhutan. Nestled beneath the foothills of the Himalayas near the Tibetan border, this is luxury with a Zen Buddhist twist. It doesn’t mean compulsory yoga at dawn, but you’ll probably want to anyway, because you have your own personal yoga instructor on hand and the views are devastatingly beautiful. Or how about the mud wraps, massages and indulgent treatments at the Phu Chaisai on Thailand’s northern border? Book one of the bamboo cottages that pepper three hillsides of protected forest. Privacy, serenity and rejuvenation are the watchwords here.
Then there's the Maldives – little pieces of Indian Ocean paradise that are all about barefoot glamour. We love Cocoa Island with its powder soft sand, morning yoga and Como Shambala spa where if we’d got any more relaxed we’d be comatosed. Fortunately a sip or two of fresh from the tree coconut water has a reviving effect and gives you enough energy to get out of your hammock so you can dive into the ridiculously blue ocean. Now that's what we call a new year health kick!
