Talking Points: out with the skyscrapers!

Katie Holmes Suri Cruise

Spotted: Coleen Rooney in six-inch Louboutins (eight months pregnant), three-year-old Suri Cruise in kitten heels (that match her clutch). We know it's LFW and worldwide fashionistas are upping their game – but girls, is this really necessary? There’s a time and a place for skyscraper heels, but flats also have their purpose. And if you’re a) Pre-teen b) Nearing your due date or c) Commuting on public transport, we say forgo the stilettos, maybe even for UGGs (just this once). Yes, we can understand why Coleen wished to look her best for a night out with the girls in Manchester this week (and at least her outfit, though stylish, was loose and maternity-friendly (God bless the inventor of leggings). We’re guessing this photo was taken early in the evening (as, for a woman in her last trimester, she looks very bright-eyed and bushy-tailed), and we wonder how comfortable those shoes were by midnight (we find heels painful enough and we’re not up the duff). As for Suri, dubbed the world’s most fashionable toddler and No.1 on Forbes list of favourite celebrity children under five (a fan of Juicy Couture, Ralph Lauren and Posh’s favourite fat-free snack edamame beans), she was pictured this week trotting around Boston in a pair of silver peep-toes with a miniature heel. But like any sensible style icon, Suri (well, Katie) had planned ahead and had a pair of pink converse to hand, to change into once her feet got too tired. Smart girl!

  • Ok I like Katie Homes - but there is something totally incorrect about a child in heels, no matter how high or low.
My mum wouldn't let me in them till I was 16 for the love of god.
This just makes me really uncomfortable - in the manner of the small person pagents!

  • Completely irresponsible to put a child in heels considering the problems that women develop throughout their adult life due to heel wearing!
    chickie
  • Come on, there hardly high! I think she looks so cute, there only the same as the plastic heels we put our kids in except a lot more classy!
And I think as long as Coleen is confortable who cares about how big her heels are she looks fab!

  • That's one odd looking kid. Katie could have at least washed the kid's hair - it's so greasy and lank! urgghh

  • there is something hugely disturbing in a child this age in a mini pair of very adult shoes - it's not just the fact that it's a heel, it's the whole style which is disturbing. Surely at that age she should be in a pair of robust, flat mary janes / pumps etc that encourage running around and not caring what you look like? Let the poor kid be a kid, Katie!

  • OK jax1972, that's a bit rude. She's a little girl for goodness sake.

  • Although I cant disagree that this girl is going to be one seriously fashionable girl I really do think heels on a toddler verges on obscene...reminiscent of pageant girls (Little Miss Sunshine style) I def think she should keep dressing up for home time!

  • Have to agree with (most) of the comments below - a little girl in heels is grotesque and reminiscent of beauty pageants (dangerous!). The poor girl isn't being allowed to be a child (like she really chooses to wear all her designer clothes.....or b, mummy picks them for her). I don't mind Katie, but I think as Elsiee says, mums shouldn't allow girls to wear heels until older (not least for foot problems but also the worrying connotations for paedophilic adults). Very scary. As for Coleen - good for her, it's her choice and I wore heels until 39 weeks, it's about the only semblance of 'femininity' a girl can have when so huge with child!

  • that little Suri kitten heels shoes reminds me of her dads inferiority complex...don't worry Tom hopefully she's taken after her mum!!and more important a child foot is growing and needs confortable shoes!!she'll have plenty of time to ruin them with blisters or worst!!!

  • Oh, for goodness sake, will everyone please get off their high-horse! Yes, heels on a 3 year old are just plain stupid, but there's also the distinct possibility that they are either a:(like someone already mentioned) 'dressing-up' shoes - After all, Katie has (also, already mentioned) brought a change of footwear with her! Or, more than likely, b: Katie is off-setting the possibility of a toddler tantrum by letting Suri wear the shoes she wants for a while, sensibly bringing along a 'back-up' pair. Anyway, they're probably designer shoes made from 'yak skin' (or something) and are likely better for her feet than some of the ill-fitting plastic rubbish that some parents put their kids in!

  • I think Suri cruise is the cutiest little girl iv seen. I also think people are just trying to 'nip-pick', when i was younger i was the girliest girl ever, everything had to be pink, purple are fairy... And when i clapped eyes on those disney plastic heel, it was all over for my parents, they did not do me any harm
I bet its the same for suri...
