iPod refresh alert: Little Jackie

Lesbianism. It's the new black don't you know. But while Katy Perry is busy kissing girls (and liking it), our latest obsession du jour - feisty, fashionista Little Jackie singer Imani Coppola - demonstrates a different, far funnier take on dipping one's toe into the Sapphic well in the brilliant ‘Guys Like When Girls Kiss' (above). The track is just one of many nuggets of pop gold on Little Jackie's caustic, catchy debut album The Stoop, out September 1st. Think Lily Allen's urban rhymes and Lauren Hill's sixties-inspired doo wap and you've got the music maths that makes up Little Jackie.

But while the band's sixties-influenced sound owes a lot to DJ Adam Pallin, it's Imani we're really interested in. With her skinny jeans, blingtastic jewellery and fabulous afro, she embodies Brooklyn cool. More importantly, she's totally on it and not afraid to say what she really thinks. Case in point: her take on skinny socialites, ‘I eat all the time/I'm part Ethiopian/That's why I stay so thin'. Brave. Check out ‘The World Should Revolve Around Me' below, the first single from Little Jackie's album, which is available to download now.
