Topshop Unique Spring Summer 2014 Show Report: It's A Heat Rave!

16 September 2013 by

A grass-covered catwalk sheltered under a festival-ready show tent within Regents Park in the pouring rain... the setting couldn't have been more ironic - or more British - for Topshop Unqiue's 'Heat Rave' collection. But with model pals Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn stalking the runway - and giving each other a little motivation whilst passing each other - the range kicked into life: sunshine or no bleedin' sunshine.

Like a very long, very costly and very wonderful gap year, Unique was a collection of hot summer memories: that Moroccan tile print you photographed and instagrammed but tessellated and printed onto a loose-fit silky dress or jumpsuit, the kind you'd wear in your Riad. Handwoven and handknitted jumpers that took up some hammock hours, left unfinished at the back because a full moon party was calling. A mannish shirt stolen from that holiday fling in Capri, worn as a dress plus backpack; ready for your next adventure. Washed out corals, ripped seams and roughed up denim that looked like it had been left out in the sun that little bit too long, because, well, laundry's the last thing on a girl's mind when you're lounging 'til sundown. Mules and sliders finished off the slouchy long-way-from-home vibe. It was all hot enough to even bring Kate Moss back from her ever-lasting summer hols.

Sundresses were key - and the backless vermicelli-strapped ones were particularly sexy in that 'I need nothing more than a tan' kind of way - but the festival-filled and sightseeing days turned into steamy, trancey nights with the final few frocks concentrating on cream, in evening-ready textures with mirror shard embellishment. Should Topshop want press to experience this posh gap yah for themselves, we'd be more than willing to come along for the ride....
