Topshop Unique Autumn Winter 2013: Mix Up, Look Sharp!

17 February 2013 by

There was a buzzy sphere of groundbreaking technology surrounding the Topshop Unique show today (with their model-cam live footage - you could practically BE Cara Delevingne), but, ever loyal, our eyes are always on the main prize - the clothes. And unlike most of LFW's rosta, Unique's price points mean we start mentally slotting looks into our actual (not fantasy) wardrobes there and then. Aside from a frow-ogling of gigantic proportions (One Direction's Louis and an understated Kate Bosworth in grey) we were enchanted by the Topshop girl's mix'n'match approach to dressing for autumn.

Topshop Unique Autum Winter 2013 Catwalk Show

With the Kate Phelan (a woman who exudes je nais se quois by the bucketload) well into her creative direction after leaving Vogue for Topshop in 2011, it's no shock that her thoroughly modern tack was taken for this fall line. Forget the more gimmicky of Unique shows passed and instead think of all those street style looks you like the most - they're usually a game of contrasts, right? Well, that's how the show felt: genuine and not regimentally heading in one direction (ha!).

A savvy Toppers girl can choose to be soft and feminine one day, gliding by in dusty pinks, mohair jumpers and teddybear shearling coats, but the next she's kicking up some dust in a don't-mess retro-look red patent mac. Then there's the dark and moody in-between days, where only the best black clothes in touch-me texture clashes will do.

There's a heck of a lot to choose from and if we were any good at saving up, this is the top five we'd hold back some pennies for...

1. White shearling biker jacket - and the pink sequinned skirt to match.

2. The splicing of nana-ish patterned knits with a fetishtitic patent skirt.

3. Jordan Dunn's finale look - a burgundy sequinned jumpsuit

4. Pink strappy courts. Even the toughest boyish type could find these  covetable when you tot up the extensive range of winter pinks on the AW13.

5. The ultra simple lilac-grey overcoat. So chic it didn't even have buttons!
