The Miu Miu resort show made for cute and characteristically sassy viewing (@miumiu)
Miuccia Prada tapped the late Sixties/early Seventies for the Miu Miu Resort collection shown in Paris last night on the eve of the autumn/winter haute couture season here. After the show she joined guests for dinner and a live performance courtesy of Jack White.
Alexa Chung, Gemma Arteton, Uma Thurman, Isla Fisher, Marc Jacobs, Steve McQueen and Roman Polanski and his wife Emmanuelle Seigner were among those in attendance.
Stylised Paisley prints, chiffon blouses with overblown sleeves and trailing scarves, shrunken macramé vests and short, sharp suede dresses and skirts studded with naive jeweled flowers dominated. They made for cute and characteristically sassy viewing.
This is a period the designer understands well and has mined frequently throughout her career, always ensuring a quirky and revitalised spin. With that in mind, colour in particular sang – all in the unlikely juxtapositions favoured by both Miu Miu and its big sister label, Prada. Zesty orange and caramel, violet and forest green, crimson and rose and more guaranteed the Miu Miu girl will stand out in the crowd come the new season.
Add to the mix crystal heeled sandals and boots – either of the go-go variety or in laced leather - and more than a little uniform navy – also a Miu Miu signature - and the look was as polished as it was young, fresh and sweet.
