Miu Miu Autumn Winter 2013: Miu Miu Lines Up The Dots

06 March 2013 by

Was Miuccia Prada thinking of the assertive not to mention superhuman Pippi Longstocking when she designed her autumn/winter collection for Miu Miu? It rather seemed like it although the Swedish-born fictional character who would rather never grow old and who - impressively - can pick up a horse in one hand had been given a very chic makeover.

A cartoon like play on proportion was evident as the first look came out. It was a pea coat with an oversized shawl collar and buttons the size of saucers. This continued throughout. The biggest bags were reserved for the most narrow clothes, mid-calf length skinny tanks were worn over full ankle length skirts and huge shoes with chunky heels and tractor soles made legs look positively twig-like by comparison.

Stripes on coats, bags and long stockings, neatly enough, polka dots on silk scarves tied at the throat and naïve colours  - rose pink, tomato red, custard yellow and sky blue - punctuating a collection otherwise mainly in black and navy only added to the determinedly youthful quality of it all.

The mischievous Miu Miu girl has an active lifestyle. Zip fronted rib-knit sweaters, parkas with knitted necklines, hems and cuffs and a duffle bag in ivory ostrich leather all nodded to sportswear but certainly of the luxe variety. For evening black pencil dresses with halternecks or cutaway backs and those scaled up shawl collars again looked great.
