H&M threw a hell of a catwalk show this evening in Paris with more cover girls and glasses of champagne than you could shake a stick at. Hosted in the grounds of the Musee Rodin in a purpose built H&M 'home' we entered into a familiar abode-like space complete with themed rooms around which the catwalk procession would snake.
There was a retro kids room with tricycles and vintage toys, a dining area with upscale place settings, a bedroom, chic bathroom and a sitting room kitted out in Scandi furniture classics. As the lights came up we were dazzled by the world's most photographed faces. Arizona, Cara, Daphne, Isabeli, Liu and Lindsey were just a small sampling if the beauties werqing the H&M house.
So what of the clothes? First up it's worth noting that this collection unlike Topshop Unique's line will not be a wildly higher priced range and it will be available in 200 stores worldwide and online from 5th September. Crafted by H&M's design team, the collection featured a host of bohemian staples including embroidered velvet jackets, braided waistcoats, Sergeant Pepper style outerwear and sheer maxi skirts (cheekily revealing everything but the buttocks).
The collection was resolutely sexy with ultra mini shorts, tasselled micro minis and a bouncy pleated skater skirt vying for attention. Over the knee-boots were paired with several looks while baker boy hats finished the look. While this collection won't be marking a new era for fashion design, it will certainly be getting the tills ringing with pieces that hip young girls across the world will clamour to get their hands on.
As the glamazons retreated backstage, the doors to the final room- the H&M closet - was revealed. While the endless railspace offered the perfect party venue for us this evening, we're pretty sure that this collection of easy-to-wear wardrobe heroes will be taking pride of place on several more wardrobes come the new season.
