After all of that Blizzard Nemo madness, you'll be pleased to hear that we are finally getting into our fashion week stride. Allow us to introduce the best beauty moments from yesterday's shows.
1. It’s A Mad Mauve World
Carolina Herrera's forties inspired collection was having a Mad Men moment this season which beauty-wise translated as a cool and flattering mauve on the nails. Essie manicurist Gina Edwards used Essie's Lady Like to pick up the colours in the collection. “It’s a 'modern mauve' fit for the forties influenced beauty,” Gina told us. Teamed with rolled retro hair and pretty plummy makeup, it was a welcome shot of colour on a miserable, rain-soaked NYC day.
2. #CTFW #GWFW #Fashionweektwitter
Check out the make up artist's who make make-up happen during fashion week with their live instagram and twitter feeds. Our current favourite is British export Charlotte Tilbury who keeps us up to date with her daily heel choices. 'I have to wear heels, they're like my very own version of a stair-master workout and keep me happy.' Check in with Charlotte daily to get a peek at the fabulous heels adorning her feet. Trust us, they're amazing!
3. New Nail Shape Alert!
Fed up of oval, almond and stiletto shaped nails? Thank goodness then for nail queen Marian Newman who has quite literally reinvented the nail at Donna Karan. Admittedly a Grazia/Marian collaboration, we named the new shape Marian created the 'q-tip' because the edge or tip of the nail mirrors the shape of the cuticle. Get it? Cu-tip? Well, we thought it rather genius!
4. All Lacquered Up!
Another nod to the forties arrived backstage at Marc by Marc Jacobs. The MBMJ women is 'more refined, polished and classical this season,' explained make up artist Dick Page. This came in the form of a super lacquered 'tomato' red lip produced by mixing two Shiseido Lacquer rouge shades in Sanguine and Drama. 'It's sexy, sexy, sexy,' Dick continued. ‘But just don't try applying this on on the bus, this is a precision lip!'
5. Get Philip Lim Skin
There’s nothing like a blizzard to play havoc with model skin – not ideal when it’s fashion week! Backstage at Philip Lim the makeup team were using one of our personal faves, Eucerin Daily Moisturising Creme to sooth chapped, weather worn faces.
