Beauty Highlights From New York Fashion Week: Days 3 and 4

09 September 2013 by

It might be a cold and miserable Monday morning here in the UK, but things are seriously hotting up across the pond in the Big Apple. This weekend saw some pretty awesome shows and some even more amazing beauty looks to boot. From black headbands at Victoria Beckham to Charlotte Tilbury’s fluorescent lips at Prabal Gurung, the beauty action this weekend just got us all even more excited about S/S 14, if that was even possible. Read on and learn, girls…

1. Princess Hair at Zac Posen

(@kerastaseusa)

Nothing says spring beauty more than flowers in the hair, right? Odile Gilbert for Kerastase was the magic behind this gorgeous look- and Posen himself crafted every single individual flower. Gilbert created an elegant, pixie-like up-do and said, “It’s all about the texture.” We couldn’t agree more, and just cannot stop staring at this rose-garden stunner of a look which we think is going to be pretty hot come S/S 14. The backstage secret? Dry shampoo, apparently, for texture and hold. Don’t you just love a good multi-tasker? We do.

2. Fluoro Pastel Lips at Prabal Gurung

Make-up guru Charlotte Tilbury is on an absolute roll right now (her first-ever make-up collection launched in Selfridges last week) and team Grazia beauty were thrilled to see her backstage at Prabal Gurung’s show on Saturday. Armed with variations of MAC’s ultra-matte Lipmix and matching lip pencils, Tilbury created near-fluorescent, candy coloured pouts on the models. “There’s a whiff of the 1950s but in a really modern way,” explained the make-up legend herself.

3. Harper Beckham’s Top Knot

(@grazia_live)

Ok, so she might only be 2 years old, but we reckon little Harper Beckham looked every inch the VB beauty at her mummy’s show yesterday morning. Check out that top knot- way to go, Harper!

4. Bold Brows at Opening Ceremony

We hate to say it, but Cara would have been proud of make-up artist Tom Pecheux’s, ahem, bold, work at yesterday’s Opening Ceremony show. According to this rather wonderful face chart, the bold brow really was the anchor of this look, and the key to Pecheux’s look lies in a winning brow pencil, apparently.

5. Val Garland’s Backstage Heroes

(@thevalgarland)

If, like us, you want to know exactly what make-up legend Val Garland used on the model’s faces at the Herve Leger show (cue an illuminated, radiant glow) then look no further than your good old friends on the Grazia beauty desk, who were over the moon when Val revealed her two total must-haves. Josie Maran’s Argan Infinity Cream and Pure Argan Oil… hurry girls and stock up now!

6. Matte Red Lips at Altuzarra

(@styledotcomamber)

It looks like the trusty old matte-red lip isn’t going anywhere for S/S 14, although it came with a spin at yesterday’s Altuzarra show. Make-up artist Tom Pecheux was back again, but this time pairing white eye shadow and white blush with a heavy, matte lip. Sounds weird, we know, but actually looked totally amazing and gave the model’s skin a gorgeous, dewy glow.

7. Black Hairbands at Victoria Beckham

(@GuidoPalau)

It was all about the stripped-back beauty at fashion queen Victoria Beckham’s show yesterday morning, and models were in the safe (and amazing) hands of lead hairstylist Guido Palau. Palau donned each model with a thick black headband and said, “With the black headband all you see is the girl’s face, so it streamlines it- takes the personality from each girl and makes them look utilitarian.” The end look was sleek, modern (and with a low ponytail). Stunning.

Stay tuned for more NYFW beauty moments as they happen!
