First Look At Tom Ford's Spring Summer 2013 Collection: Chastity And Perversity

20 September 2012 by

While Tom Ford’s London HQ presentations are highly secretive – we won’t be able to share pictures of his S/S 2013 collection with you for a few weeks yet -  we were able to get a proper up close and personal look at the line with Mr Ford himself talking us through his new season offerings. Devilishly handsome, and with more than his fair share of charisma, we have to admit we were completely and utterly charmed.

But enough about our swoon-in, what about the clothes? Tom told us this season he had been looking at the relationship between chastity and perversity. “If you look too chaste, too buttoned up, you will always look a little dull, but if you go all-out sexy it can look perverse. This collection is about finding the balance.”

As you might expect from a Tom Ford show there was plenty of sex appeal with leather jacket sleeves bandaged up with buckled straps, PVC pencil skirts and elastic harnesses clutching at chiffon dresses to create a highly charged silhouette. So far, so perverse. But where Ford really kicked into gear was with his gossamer light silk dresses and blouses which featured ingenious slits at the sleeves, the décolletage and at the back of skirt hems – concealing and revealing at the same time.

In so far as trends go, there was a definite 60s vibe with PVC cropped swing jackets and coats while  sports inspirations abounded with sheer tracksuits bringing a whole new meaning to gym-chic. Shoes were particularly strong from a buckled boot/sandal combo to seriously covetable spike embellished wedges.

As DJ Ford wound down the music – ever the multi-tasker Tom was also masterminding the show soundtrack from his iPad – we took in the closing pieces of the line; Crystal leaden web-like maxis teamed with silk second-skin jackets added that signature punch of high-octane glamour. Talk about va va VOOM!

UPDATE: Despite demanding the upmost secrecy when we attended his private view and refused to unveil his clothes until they're in store, the designer has released TWO images from his Spring Summer 2013 collection. Rejoice!
