Catwalk Highlights At Milan Fashion Week Day One: Gucci, Alberta Ferretti, Francesco Scognamiglio

20 September 2012 by

Brand giant Gucci was the big draw at Day One of Milan Fashion Week, and designer Frida Giannini's 70s inspired collection featured a sizzling colour palette (hot pinks, electric blues and feverish yellows), plus the sorts of ostentatious finishing touches that maneuver simple pieces into the 'high-fashion' arena - a single voluminous sleeve here, a spiralling neck ruffle there. Meanwhile at Alberta Ferretti, a succession of woodland nymphs, mermaids and sea sirens seemed to float down the catwalk, wearing exquisite sylph-like gowns adorned with seaweed, leaves and other natural motifs. And Francesco Scognamiglio's collection blurred the lines between the innocent virgin and the sexy seductress, where demure, girlish designs were made risque by sheer, gauzy fabrics. Very naughty.
