So last week we bought you the news on partings, one of the biggest beauty trends at NYFW. This week it’s London’s turn and, as usual, the au naturel look, reminiscent of the 90’s supermodels (think Christy Turlington and Cindy Crawford), dominated the spring/summer catwalk with designers such as Christopher Kane and Felder Felder sticking with the classic au naturel beauty look.
But amongst the sea of nude it was a treat to see a splash of colour with designers such as Burberry, Holly Fulton and Vivienne Westwood going against the grain and opting for a brighter look. It made a welcome change during a season traditionally dominated by pastels and there was just enough people doing it to spark what we suspect may be a hot new beauty trend. Pass the lippy…
The models at Holly Fulton were working a bright lip in not one but two shades. The centre of the lips were dabbed with a bright coral red which faded out into a rich magenta towards the edge of the lips. The clever colour pattern created a unique three dimensional effect and added a real pop of colour. Eyes were left bare to let the lips do the talking.
Never one to shy away from the limelight, the beauty look at Vivienne Westwood was typically weird and wonderful. Whilst the all over facepaint worked with the off-beat collection, we wouldn’t recommend it for a casual day at the office. Instead, opt for the toned down version of the look and keep it simple with a slick of fuchsia lipstick.
Other colourful lips erred more on the side of caution with Burberry sticking to a rich crimson (however a huge lip out of their usual neutral make-up look) whilst Erdem was barely there with just a smudge of soft coral in the centre of the lip. Pinks and corals were the shade of the moment and popular with both Issa and Paul Smith whilst Louise Gray showcased orange tones.
