Backstage Beauty At Mulberry's Spring Summer 2013 Show

LFW finished off with a blast backstage at Mulberry for yet another cute and quirky collection of clothes and an awesome beauty look. We snooped around pre-show trying to spy on any amazing new It-bags (yes, we found one, she's called Willow) and caught up with hair stylist Sam McKnight and Matthias van Hoof, L'Oreal's head makeup artist.

As ever, the Mulberry girl for SS '13 is English but she isn't perfect. The clothes are a little sharper and so is the beauty look, which was defined by a thick flick of black eye liner. "With the clothes being a bit more structured, I wanted the makeup to be more like this too, " Matthias told us, "so I focused on a very thick flick of black eyeliner using L'Oreal Gel Intense Liner and then their Liquid Liner." But the key detail is that the flick is soft and nto too pointed. "The flick is almost like a straight line," he continued, "and more rounded at the end rather than being too point." And what a mighty flick it was too. alongside that, Matthias wanted the girls to have dewy, wet skin in a sun-kissed kind of way so he used L'Oreal Triple Active Glow all over the face. A touch of concealer was used if needed and then a whopping three layers of L'Oreal's new Mega Volume Collagen 24 Black Smoke Mascara was applied, which is in fact a totally matte formula, and boy did it look good!

A little trick we learnt from Matthias, which he did at the show, is to apply moisturiser on top of the finished look, blusher et al, to really add dewyness to the skin for a fresh and glowing complexion. Yep, we're going to be trying this one at home ladies...

Over on the hair front, Sam McKnight was doing a "loose, beachy, braided chignon that is very English and undone", he told us. He pulled hair back into a low side parting and then created messy rolls of chignons, making every girl a little different and random from the next. He said the look was, "very organic", which given all his tweeting about his amazing garden and blooming flowers, we kinda liked. Good work Sam!
