The Red Bull Catwalk Studio have been supporting accessories designer and all-round creative genius Fred Butler all season – enabling her to hold her LFW presentation, produce a beautifully evocative film with director Elisha Smith-Leverock, create an original track with a dubstep vibe they’re calling Love Step with music producer Two Inch Punch – which Fred collaborated on with him in the studio, going as far as to provide the humming vocal on the track, which was looped on the sound system throughout the presentation this morning. They’re even laying on a sure-to-be-outrageous after-party in Mayfair for the occasion. However, we don’t think it’s an entirely one-way street since Fred is so super-talented, which she has proved season after season with her amazing collections-cum-performances.
The collection itself was an immense treasure-trove of gold accessories, modelled by four extra-gorgeous mannequins equipped with latex knickers and bras by William Wilde and amazing flower-encrusted wedge shoes by regular collaborator Rosy Nicholas (above). Among the bling there were hexagon-hooped earrings, bumble-bee backpacks and bee-sting bum bags. There was a bit of a movement away from the purely whimsical fantasy feel of her previous collections and in a much more 1990’s Salt’N’Peppa, En Vogue, hip hop direction, as evidenced by the baseball caps and headphones – all crafted from intricate honey-comb hexagons of course. That sunny sunshiney upstairs venue always has a special atmosphere during Fred’s presentations and the fact it was reflected back off so much gold and sparkle was the icing – or should that be the honey topping (?) on the cake.
