Peter Pilotto Spring Summer 2013: Print Explosion

17 September 2012 by

9am on day three at the Topshop NEWGEN space: it's the Peter Pilotto show. The dynamic print duo set the bar higher and higher every season, top buyers and editors eagerly await for the show to start all cladded in their homage to the duo.
Where would we be without Topshop's amazing hospitality on Bedford Square - hungry and tired! We drank fresh lemonade, berry crushes and strong coffees and ate miniature pastries, they really do think of everything.

Here are our highlights:

1. Colour combinations started off in black and white, then progressed into brighter and more vibrant print varieties and clashes than you can possibly imagine. It was a total print fest but could we imagine anything different.

2. The prints as always took centre stage, the development came in the silhouette. New shapes and structures have been created; ruffles, thigh slits, peplum waists and bell detailing dominated.

3. Although a lot of the pieces looked like they were dresses they were indeed separates. From a commercial perspective, perhaps it is easier to sell these printed extravaganzas as two pieces, easier to mix and match in your wardrobe..? Love the waffle knits and crochet skirts.

4. The intricate detailing employed doesn't come across as well in the pictures, but believe us: the 3d embroidery taken from Indian beadwork, the use of corseting and crinolines as underpinnings and the layer upon layers of tiered ruffles looked more couture than ready to wear!

5. And the shoes… Oh my! Nicholas Kirkwood did a sterling job in mirroring the psychedelic prints of the collection onto the lace up sporty sandals.

Ta-da moment: The explosion of prints and colours were mimicked on the runway, a real wake up call which brightened up our morning.

Item we'll be saving for: Trumpet figure hugging skirts that flare out giving providing the Jlo bottom we have always wanted!

New detail: Necklines were experimental, the cut-outs and criss-cross's = more gym time asap!
