Trend Spotting At New York Fashion Week: Parting Ways For Spring Summer 2013 Hair

13 September 2012 by

Today is New York’s final day hosting fashion week before the fashionistas arrive in London tomorrow to do it all over again!  So we’re in a reflective mood this morning and thought we’d treat you to a gallery of one of the biggest beauty trends to come out of NYFW, the placement of your parting.  Precise and considered, it’s all wearing a defined parting which has to go one of two ways.  Straight down the middle, with a nod to the nineties or worn severly to the side, partings played a huge, er, part during NYFW.

Taking Centre Court

From Alexander Wang's excentuated middle, taped partings to the seventies inspired middle partings at Prabal Gurung, it was surprising how much the centre parting can vary.  One things for certain, there's definitely more styling involved than you might have first thought starting with investing in a new hairdryer.  Key to keeping that parting in place, along with the prerequisite tucking hair behind the ears that seemd to also feature heavily this season.

The Side Show

Not to be overshadowed by the strong centre partings, side partings made their own impact at the shows, including some of New York's hottest tickets.  Marc Jacobs swept side partings, which kind of reminded us of Peppermint Patty's voluminous chunky forehead side fringe to DKNY's more relaxed and casual low side parting, the beauty of the side fringe is its ability to disguise a growing out fringe, just keep in place with an embellised accessory or a simple kirby grip to kep the style in place.
