Beauty Highlights At New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2013: Zac Posen Goes Grace Kelly & Aqua Eyes At Derek Lam

10 September 2012 by

During a slightly better day weather wise in New York City, Grazia Daily were very excited to spend the morning at the Public Library for Victoria Beckham's show, making the 8am show call worth while. The backstage area has become the highlight of NYFW if only for the spectacle of people-watching. With that in mind, here are our top highlights from Sunday's Spring Summer 2013 shows...

1. The Beckham family backstage - from Baby Harper's cute top knot to David Beckham charming everyone - was certainly a nice wake up call! Ken Paves, Victoria Beckham's BFF and hair stylist, also made an appearance to show his support for his bestie and keep those locks in shape. As for the models' hair, the key tool was the Babyliss Volare Ferrari hair dryer - it's super-powerful.

2. Eugene Soulieman's Aussie Rules baseball cap backstage at DKNY brought real life to the runway! It was a reflection of the hair this season too - minimal, casual but very chic. This involves soft, naturally wavy hair, centre partings and hair tucked behind the ears. That should be easy enough to recreate. Right?

3. The aqua trend is quickly gathering pace with Tom Pecheux recreating a gorgeous eye at Derek Lam inspired by a sunset lake. Will the blue theme carry across the water to London, we wonder?

4. It takes three individual MAC lashes applied at the outer corner of the eye to create the elongated, almond eyes at DVF - it's the easiest way to achieve an eye opening effect. We also loved the pink and red print lips that adorned the make-up area, livening up the white walls of the Lincoln Centre.

5. The hair at Zac Posen was bombshell gorgeousness. The elegant waves, false lashes, and customized neutral nails were inspired by Lena Horne and Grace Kelly. 'This is a beautiful high society girl,' explained John Frieda Global Creative Consultant Luigi Murenu. 'It's very romantic, very chic — Grace Kelly 2013.' The waves were created by wrapping hair around a barrel curling iron and brushing out the curls. We want.
