Beauty At DKNY Spring Summer 2013: Eugene Soulieman Creates All Purpose Hair

10 September 2012 by

It's always nice to see a familiar British face backstage at New York Fashion Week, especially when it's major hair stylist Eugene Soulieman who also happens to be the Global Creative Director for Wella - so Grazia Daily caught up with him to get the lowdown on the hair for DKNY this season.

'This is real hair for real girls,' he told us. 'There's a bit of everything in the collection. Day wear, sportswear, swimwear, eveningwear, it's all going on and the the hair needed to be cool, normal and to pull everything together. The girls at DKNY are always so gorgeous, I wanted a style that made them even more so'.

So what does real girl hair involve? Partings are already playing a big role for Spring Summer 2013 beauty, as hair harps back to simplicity and sophistication. The deep, low side parting at DKNY, tucked behind the ears is another style that is featuring heavily on the SS13 catwalks and the contrasting loose, softly waved hair is actually easily achievable. Well, Eugene it look that way at least!

'The roots were blow dried with Perfecting Setting for shine and root direction, essential for a strong parting, and we created the loose wave by sprit-zing the twisted prep knots with Wella Ocean Spritz (Create Character in the UK) which gives the hair a matte texture, a contrast to the top of the hair which is smoother and shinier. It's fluid though and not too obvious a contrast'.

What do we like most about this look? Apart from feeling like we're already sporting a similar style, which we're now working on perfecting, it's a season of minimalism which means only a few new season trend tweaks - so far!
