Alexander Wang gave us another masterclass in monochromatic modernity for Spring 2013. He truly has the prophetic ability to tap into the collective subconscious of his cooler than cool downtown customer whilst giving his signature style a fresh new spin AND without veering too far from his brand DNA. The spin this season ? to create a wardrobe of beautiful basics that were deconstucted and then reconstituted as if held together at the very least, by the very air we breath or at the very most , literally hanging by a thread.
This created a new kind of body consciousness that relied less on the skintight silhouettes we've seen in the past , but more on what appeared to be a second skin hovering delicately over the body giving us tantalising glimpses of what lied beneath. Dresses and skirts were given this treatment alike , with contoured cutouts meticulously (and strategically) razored out of leather that felt light and airy as a result.

And whilst it was still sporty to the max , it could also be described as the sexiest collection we've ever seen from Wang where his downtown tom-girl has made a transformation into a cyber seductress of sorts.. There wasn't a trouser in sight either, so there was plenty of leg to boot... especially where the shift dresses had splits at the thigh that went miraculously (and scandalously) shoulder high.
So Wangs woman this season is clearly not afraid to get noticed. So much so , that his chic clubbing clientele can even steal the limelight on a darkened dancefloor. Turn off the lights and voila! You're a glow-in-the-dark goddess.
But with all of the overt sexiness of this seasons offering , it takes a certain kind of genius to create a collection that, whilst leaving virtually nothing to the imagination, still maintains oodles of modesty for the thoroughly modern missy. Bravo.
