As we make our way through day three of NYFW the most striking point to note thus far is the collective obsession with sportswear. Sure NYC has always been about easy to wear clothes and cool street/catwalk mash ups, but this season the amount of spandex on show is crazy. DKNY was a case in point. As well as super cool logo tees, tie up visors and bum bags we saw an awful lot of swimsuits. Not swimsuits for the pool mind you - we're talking swimsuits as actual tops to be worn as daywear. Heck there were even swimsuit maxi length gowns rocking down the runway.
In a similar vein to Victoria Beckham this morning, Donna Karan kept colour disciplined - monochrome with a highlights of taxicab yellow & reflective silver leather -and tapped that sporty, easy-chic look complete with aertex panels, and designer pac-a-macs. The show notes point as ever at DKNY to Big Apple inspirations, and the integration of hip street style from utility jackets, camo and denim - one super cool skirt was fashioned from a jean-shirt - was seamless. We also saw another trend going strong - all-weather leather. From super simple leather sheaths to silver leather jackets and pencils skirts, the addition of skin thin leathers upped the luxe quotient. New York is already shaping up to be about 'no-brainer' style - with the emphasis on form following function.
