Stella McCartney: Paris Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2012 Show Report

05 March 2012

Athletics, Rococo, modern tailoring and riffs on ice skating outfits, not to mention a startling colour statement of cobalt blue and hot pink: that is what Stella McCartney is made of for Autumn Winter 2012.

This diverse mix of influence converged into a very work oriented wardrobe of outfits that would do any contemporary working woman justice in her professional life.

Stella so gets what women want from fashion, namely clothes that do a job in both a practical and enganced image giving sense.

So for day it is collarless coats with a zip and biker jacket vibe in soft salt and pepper Herringbone tweed worn with wide leg tailored trousers in black, hot pink or cobalt. Or a blue neoprene dress embossed with Rococo swirls that fits through the body and flares gently out below the knee in an almost ecclesiastical silhouette.

Alicia Keys sat in the front row of the show wearing the Stella McCartney hourglass trick-of-the-eye dress was proof - if any was needed - of the power of her clever-cutting. Alicia looked super-slim from afar; when she passed us on the stairs on the way out of the show her extreme curves were more apparent, in a good way of course.

The dresses in this show came short and sweetly flared like little ice-skater skirts; their top halves rendered from a mixed media of fabrics including tweed, shiny silks and matt blue jersey.

Towards the end of the show we saw corporate yet cool jackets cut with pronounced curves nipping the waist and flaring out over the hips; equestrian style. The growing trend for skirt suits was also served by Stella, who took her bow looking as soignee as her chignoned models.
