New York Fashion Week Spring Summer 2012 show report: Diesel Black Gold

Sophia Kokosolaki has upped the game for Diesel Black Gold. In only three seasons as creative director, she has taken the label from a jeans brand that has a catwalk show alongside designers in NY fashion week, to a label that can hold its own with the best the city has to offer.

That denim brand attitude,  finessed by the feminine subtlety that someone like Kokosolaki can bring to it, has given Diesel a positive advantage. The collection has a clearly calibrated point of view that positions them perfectly when customers are looking for fashion with overtones of urban chic and undertones of luxury.

In your face fashion right now is as wrong as snow in the summertime. And Sophia’s balance of the edgy and the chic is bang on the money. The easy tailored tux in cream and white over white jeans; the paneled neoprene tunic over soft mannish shirt and metallic wrap skirt; the easy toga wrapped jersey over cracked silver skirt as an evening option; and those perfectly proportioned biker jackets were all pitch perfect.
