LFW S/S ’12 report: Louise Gray

20 September 2011

No-one is a better muse for Louise Gray than Louise Gray herself. The designer is always the funnest girl at a party, and her personal style may draw curious glances from passers-by, but it is always inspired. For the first season, Louise is on schedule and has finally been brought under the New Generation umbrella. Last season her venue was full to bursting with her fans, but this SS ’12 show felt more sedate – but just because the venue was bigger, and the fact that Topshop could really do with more speakers so the music fills the old Eurostar station at Waterloo (currently it sounds like someone has turned up their iPod at one end of the catwalk). ‘If I were a rich girl’ was the theme, and to be honest if I was a rich girl there are loads of this collection I would buy. The vinyl panelled woven trench, the scarlet embellished shorts and the full last two looks. While other designers are simplifying their collections to appeal to more buyers, Louise isn’t going to change for money, and while her customers are a very specific minority, they are totally the people that you should hang out with at a party.
