NYFW S/S ‘12 Report: Michael Kors

15 September 2011

It’s not only Donna Karan who left her heart in Africa this season. Michael Kors opened his show with now familiar opening drum beat of Adele's Rolling In The Deep but re-mixed with what sounded like a Louisiana fiddle. Was it Adele doing Deliverance? First outfit indicated it was an altogether different swamp: one where ‘gators grow big enough to get an entire strap of a cross the body messenger bag out of one tail. The model wearing just such a bag with a distressed linen wrap over khaki shorts and vest suggested Michael was taking us on safari.

I have a closet addiction to Michael Kors’ slick glamour, but I get a little nervous when he trades the 12 ply cashmere for sweaters that look like they have been customized by moths and outwerwear that hints at journey by pack mule.

Take me back to the private jet, Michael! We all rely on you for a fantasy of first class travel and a life in pristine shades of camel and cream seen through gold aviator shades. I must admit the tie dyed trench, the leather tunic and the safari tailoring didn’t disappoint but I’ll have to pass on the macramé and the flinstones linen.
