NYFW S/S ‘12 Report: DKNY

12 September 2011

The wardrobe for S/S'12 from DKNY is concisely edited down to two options: a sharp tailored tux or flowing floral prints.

The first half was a play on the classic black jacket, a pillar of the classic Donna Karan wardrobe. Styled over voluminous white silk mannish shirts, long enough to pass for dresses, or tailored shorts, it looked funky with a floppy brimmed hat and ankle strap shoes.

Those silk shirts grew in proportion to become billowy dresses with assymetric hems in a monochrome palette of cream or black although a hit of indigo denim in a thigh length pea coat over skinny cropped pants was my personal favourite.

Print is the headlining story on the NY runways so far and DKNY worked primary brights in bold horizontal stripes or primitive florals that looked like childrens’ crayon drawings.

Tunic tops or billowy shirts over slim pants have pygama ease: bound to be an off duty favourite. And an oversized parka is shaping up to be a summer must have.
