NYFW S/S ‘12 Beauty Report: Thakoon

12 September 2011

After fighting through a cloud of fluro hair powder, Grazia Daily found hair maestro Odile Gilbert kitted out in an apron backstage at Thakoon. She was excitedly demonstrating the technique to create the brilliantly bright hair while covered in terracotta and white dust from the organic european clay base. 'There are two styles, a braid and a chignon,' she explained. The next step in what could well have been an art lesson was to paint on coloured powder in either a wet or dry formula to match the designer's cheery collection.  This was inspired by the Indian Festival of Colour whilst the other reference came in the form of cowboys!

This is where Diane Kendall came into play to combine the two inspirations. 'We're combining two iconic cultural elements so the brows are strong and masculine whilst the skin is dusty with a pop of pink on the cheeks'. We're calling this one a fun, indie cowgirl. Yeehaw!
