NYFW S/S ‘12 Beauty Report: DVF

The opening of Diane von Furstenberg's collection is inspired by Africa so backstage a tonal African palette is in use. James Kaliardos explains the make-up is made up of lots of different colours. 'Lauren Hutton and Naomi Campbell use at least eight different shades ranging from pink to green to brown to create that flawless, tonal skin we associate with them.' Yep, it takes great effort to get skin like this, so no more lazy application!

As for the hair, it mimicked the shapes African women make when they wrap fabric around their head. Orlando Pita created dry, earthy rolled-down pleats to keep the round shapes of the reference. The result was elegant and natural, but a far cry from the usual bright and breezy DVF girl of seasons past.
