PFW A/W '11 Report - Stella McCartney

08 March 2011

Stella McCartney's collection for a/w '11 was extreme to say the least.  From oversized masculine suiting at one end of the spectrum to skin tight dresses with mesh panels down the side that made wearing of underwear impossible at the other. A high-necked boiled wool sweater-dress that fell to mid calf was followed by a flirty A-line halter dress, its tuille overlayer adorned with applique polka dots, looked fit for a modern city bride.  Maybe what Stella was trying to say is that a woman has many facets to her personality and likes to play with different vibes in her clothes?

Whatever, in this collection there was plenty to love; the gold foil felted wool mini dress (the play between the bling bling colour and the bulky fabric was fab), the blue velvet – and super sexy – pointed toe stilettos with gold tips on their heels, the fluid super wide trousers which were paired with a stiff cocoon-shaped sweater and a mannish tuxedo coat with double lapels worn by the heavenly Joan Smalls, were the standout pieces.

Stella, who has just come back to work after producing baby number four, dedicated the show to her babies, her family, her husband and her team. Sweet.
