PFW A/W '11 Report - Isabel Marant

05 March 2011

Warm jackets, jumpers and jeans. They don’t sound like very inspirational raw materials for a high fashion show but in Madamoiselle Marant’s hands they were given a bit of a cool-over. From the clothes that we all wore in the cold weather of our childhoods came raw sex appeal. Isabel Marant had shrunk the bottom halves down; either mini skirts or drainpipe trousers, then enlarged boxy jackets to slouchy, borrowed-yer-boyfriend’s proportions and added her signature tasselled boots, (this time thigh-high) which focused all attention on the girls’ toned legs and pouting little faces.

Clever – but a trick that worked for every outfit of the collection – from double denim, to snowy white knits; both jumpers and ponchos, and accessories in the form of Native American chunky jewellery. She already dresses the editorati (Carine, Emmanuelle and the like) but with this season’s theme, she may have cracked a conundrum that faces the most humble of us: how to keep warm AND look cool at the same time.
