Balenciaga's creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière has long been associated with pioneering textile technology. Each season, he somehow manages to reinvent his fierce vision of style, with his directional and highly technical fabrics and clever construction. A true visionary in fashion terms.
This season it seems he has softened up. In contrast to his spring/summer collection, which was weighty, monochromatic and very masculine, his A/W offering had lightened up somewhat. Enter chunky bomber jackets woven from strips of faux leather (known round our way as ‘pleather’), inspired by how textiles look under a microscope with the warp and weft visible, draped floral skirts were feminine and pretty, while mannish jackets and light tailored layers, seemed less formal when teamed with skinny pants. We really loved the jolly colour palette with uplifting pops of electric blue and vivid violet. Lovely, lovely!
