LFW A/W '11 Report: Meadham Kirchhoff

For the last couple of seasons, everyone has raved about Meadham Kirchhoff. Everyone seemed to love their Courtney Love and My So Called Life referenced collections, calling them ‘geniuses’ and ‘the only thing exciting about London Fashion Week’. We disagreed. While of course they are both brilliantly talented boys, we never really got the fuss to be honest. Call us provincial if you like (we’re not). But this season we finally got there. The very cool red, white and black clothes speak for themselves, but it was the presentation that everyone was talking about.

The team of models all marched onto the catwalk together, to a Hitchcock soundtrack, and formed a rectangle grid in the middle of the floor. One by one the models broke off and quickly walked around the floor, barely giving the audience a chance to take in what they were wearing. They then disappeared backstage, before coming out once more for a single-file stomp around the floor. The designers took a bow, and that was it over. A welcome change from a staid fashion show. Meadham Kirchhoff proved that they are not only great designers, but have a powerful sense of the dramatic too.
