LFW A/W '11 Beauty Report: Julien Macdonald

22 February 2011

What a way to end the day at Julien Macdonald yesterday, set inside the beautiful gothic interior of No. 1 Mayfair. The make-up, by Grazia fave James Kaliardos, was 'gothic, but deconstructed and sexier'. James wanted the models to look like they had just woken up but with their makeup still on.  The inspiration?  None other than Abbey Lee Kershaw herself (mayjah girl crush going on there). We picked up on his use of L'Oreal's Infallible Eye Colour in Endless Chocolate and 4D Lash Architect Mascara, which was applied in an unruly manner to make lashes thick and clumpy and more goth-like. Heaven. Join this look with the dark red lip in Freshly Grape (which James smudged on with a Q-tip) and you get a bunch of H.O.T. looking dolls.

Over in hair Martin Cullen added a 'rocky edge' to locks. Models had their hair AND brows dyed for the show using L'Oreal Professional Majirel (Hersheson's Amy Wilson doing an expert job), and hair was slicked back over the head, with polka straight long ends. Very goth-girl-meets-teenage-punk. A few had headbands 'a la Jon Bon Jovi' and L'Oreal Silk & Gloss Hairspray finished off the look.

Our favourite moment? Watching giggly models eating huge Hummingbird cupcakes (yes we witnessed it) and Hilary Alexander storming across the catwalk to find Julien himself when the show was running 45 minutes late. Only at LFW...
