NYFW A/W ‘11 Report: Marc by Marc Jacobs

16 February 2011

So, as regular readers of Grazia Daily you'll know that '70s is the biggest trend of SS '11. If you are clever and fashion savvy, we're sure that you have bought into it already. A pair of flares maybe, or a polyester pussybow blouse perhaps? Well hang on to them, as they seem to be investment buys (not that we would ever really recommend a fly by night purchase), as New York designers keep bringing back more and more of the '70s.
Yesterday's Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was retro by nature, from the first gold lamé jacket, to the final butoned up satin dress. A far cry from his future fetish Marc Jacobs collection earlier this week, this AW '11 offering had more in common with his last season 'Taxi Driver' homage. Satin shirts tucked neatly into high-waistedwide-leg trousers or printed calf-length skirts (that midi isn't going anywhere by the way. Embrace, embrace, embrace!). Button through shirt dresses printed with Impalas - which ran through shirting and accessories too - cable knit sweaters in that oh-so-70s orange, and heavy coats belted with thin strips of leather reminding us of what Marc winter is all about...the cover up.
This wasn't a sexy collection, but Marc has made it clear that he is not interested in sexy, he just wants cool girls to wear cool clothes. Maybe that's sexy enough?
