NYFW A/W ‘11 Report: Tommy Hilfiger

1970’s superfly tailoring and wet look trench coats had me humming the theme from Shaft to myself all the way through this show. Leggy mannish cuts in prince of wales check suiting or grey flannel was styled with high heeled loafers and soft felt hats. Masculine city coats over silky pygama suits and sleeveless double breasted jackets over chiffon shirts were a sharp blend of 70’s cool and Hilfiger tailored chic.

I sat beside Olivia Palermo who is a pretty perfect package. Have you any idea how inane the questions are posed by those clamouring TV crews. I mean, ‘do you notice the models Olivia?’ She smiled sweetly enthusiastically and gave impressively full answers to unbelievably empty questions.

Everything about her is dainty and miniature. Next to her in her crisp white tux suit I had to admit I felt like a giant in jeans. ‘Oh you’ve got to be kidding. I’m not even sure I’m dressed at all. I’ve done three shows and three quick changes in the back of the car tonight already. Hope I haven’t left a zipper undone.’ Who said fashion shows weren’t stressful?
