LFW S/S '11 report: Sass & Bide

18 September 2010

Australian fashion label Sass & Bide started back on the London Fashion Week schedule a few seasons ago, and their move from cult denim (they were after all the brand that single-handedly caused the skinny jeans revolution in the UK with their grey 'Frayed Misfit' jeans...with a little keep from Kate Moss, naturally) to designer brand has been most successful. With their past two collections flying out of stores and the A-list clamouring to wear their latest looks (one of Beyonce's most memorable numbers last year was her heavily-embellished Sass & Bide bodycon dress; and they're still Cheryl Cole and Whitney Port's top choice for leopard-print denim and tie-dye styles) we couldn't wait to see what Sarah-Jane Clarke and Heidi Middleton would do next...and would we spot the next style sensation to supersede the ruched Black Rats legging? So we piled into Covent Garden's Royal Opera House and down into a fabric-draped circular space to find out. The music starting pumping (energetic, buzzy beats) and the sun-kissed models (led by O-T-M Aussie babe Jessica Hart) filled out....the design duo didn't disappoint. Attention-grabbing prints in pretty colour palettes and later more graphic monochrome designs typical of the label; in a mix of easy, effortless silhouettes- think silky jumpsuits and sassy separates, often adorned with most incredible embellishment. Sexy mini dresses with gorgeous rose gold metal detailing that could instantly be imaginable on Rihanna & Co. Fun straw-like raffia made its way onto dramatic ruff collars and skirts and some brilliant draped trousers were particularly memorable. Sass & Bide's S/S '11 collection is a definite crowd-pleaser for their ever-growing fan base.
