With a front row full of Betty Jackson's loyal fans (Jennifer Saunders, Melanie Blatt, Tracy Emin), she showed her Spring/Summer '11 collection to a joyous disco soundtrack, the vibe felt younger and lighter than usual but still with plenty of pieces to keep her regulars happy.
Inspired by the women's land army of the 1940s, there was lots of emphasis on the waist with nipped in silhouettes, adorned with skinny belts, all made current with sporty touches; think drawstring finishes, aertex stilettos, wedges and utilitarian-style bags. Betty's brilliant with detail and the incredible neon jewellery (a collaboration with New York based jewellerl Alexis Bittar), zesty nails and eye-make all added extra punch to more muted looks.
And, of course, there were some killer prints; abstract green and pink foliage, flower stenciling and colourful bird-decorated dresses, elegant blouses, and even swimwear. And what a textural treat! There were raffia and feather accents creating dramatic silhouettes, as well as high-shine cottons and satin jacquards which bought further glamour to the model-army of glossy girls. Nice work sergeant Jackson, we salute you.
