NYFW S/S '11 report: Michael Kors

16 September 2010

First off, I'm going to make an early trend prediction. Brace yourselves ladies, for it seems that yellow is going to be the colour of the season. Not a gentle lemon yellow either, but a screaming canary yellow. We have seen it at a number of shows this week and on the stylish streets of New York, but it was at Michael Kors that we realised there would probably be no escaping it. And in his cool tunic or racer-back maxi dress we may even consider wearing it! Michael Kors was everything that the fashion audience watching wasn't (after the slew of NY parties the night before) - glowing, healthy and energetic. "Here Comes the Sun" was the soundtrack to the show, which summed it up perfectly. Backstage the designer told journalists that this is a collection for 'a sunshine state of mind', which is  exactly what this collection will give you. Opening with a cluster of all-white to cleanse the palette, the simplicity of the fine knits paired with trenches or lightweight trousers made me want to rethink my all-black wardrobe. What followed was loungewear at its best and most glamorous. Everything looked like it could be thrown on in a second and instantly look perfect. There was no detail for detail's sake, everything was simple and elegant. Even the "evening" section at the end looked like it would be suitable for a cocktail party or a night in on the sofa - and that's not easily achieved. Pass me the green maxi skirt and white basic tee, and I swear I'll detox for that all-American glow to do it justice!
