It's no secret that Halston has had its ups and downs. Since it was relaunched in 2008 - having been bought by movie mogul, Harvey Weinstein, stylist Rachel Zoe and Tamara Mellon of Jimmy Choo fame - it's already on designer number two (Marco Zanini lasted just one season). This is Marios Schwab's second season for the house, and this time he's struck it lucky. Twenty-four looks, grouped into as-simple-as-they-sound sections called "white", "coral", "black", "camel", "prints", "ivory pink" and "cream", none of which do justice to the stunning sequinned gowns, although a white jersey asymmetric gown fastened with a gold buckle was a personal favourite (and here's hoping they produce and sell the black suede shoes. Please). Fabrics were slashed and cut-away to reveal model-taut skin (obvs) and sun-kissed shoulders. Marios stayed faithful to the brand, but also allowed himself to put a bit more, well, Marios into the collection too; evident in the sculptural necklines. Halston for S/S '11 is sexy, wearable and more importantly, totally commercial (which Harvey will no doubt be delighted by). Sarah Jessica Parker, creative director of Halston Heritage, joined Marios in meeting the press at last night's event in New York, and while she may have stolen some of his limelight - her paps were considerably more than his - none of her line was presented, so we save that opinion for another day.
