As we huddled together for warmth in the Grand Palais for the Yves Saint Laurent fall 2010 show, LCD Soundsystem took to their instruments to perform a specifically composed piece of music for the show. (The show – music and all- is available to watch on ysl.com, youtube and facebook!)
In a predominantly graphic palette of black and white, Stefano Pilati mixed elements of standard tailoring with clear plastic capes or PVC inserts; built in protection from the elements.
Bloused sleeves billowed but also morphed into a cape, while jacket sleeves flapped behind the models’ arms. Oversized floppy black hats, long chain necklaces and elbow length suede gloves accessorised the puritanical style white silk blouses paired with either wide-legged trousers or long pleated skirts.
As the music reached a crescendo the monochrome palette gave way to jewel coloured satin eveningwear – a magenta satin cape with feather ruff, sunflower yellow ruffle top dress and majorell blue evening jacket cinched at the waist.
