MFW AW10 Beauty Blogger: Francesco Scognamillio and Etro

28 February 2010

MAC make-up artist – and guest blogger for Grazia Daily during Milan Fashion Week – Neil Young is back with another expert look at what goes down backstage at the shows...

What a day! My first show of the day Etro was such a last minute panic. Of the three hour call time for hair and makeup fifteen of the girls arrived within the last ten minutes causing chaos backstage. The show was already one hour late and this only added to the pressure! To make matters worse they arrived wearing black gloss which had to be removed and replaced with a soft grey/brown matt eyeshadow called copperplate. Not easy and certainly not a quick task. It was mayhem but as always it got done and the show went on.

On to my next show and the late theme was running through all the shows. At Francesco Scognamillio it was even more madness with a record number of nineteen girls arriving ten minutes before the show started. With a complete hair and makeup change the pressure was on yet again. Val Garland created a gorgeous super luxurious lip using Smoked purple and Russian Red lipstick and set with Basic Red pigment to give it a velvet finish. It was gorgeous but creating the lip takes skill and extreme precision and not easy when time is against you! The show looked incredible. After a very stressful day I couldn't wait to get to the bar and soothe my day away with a large glass of red wine!
