LFW AW10 Report: Antonio Berardi

23 February 2010

I don't usually like Mondays, especially rainy ones, but this morning I and a few hundred other fashionistas allowed ourselves to be seduced by the Sicilian charms of Antonio Berardi's A/W collection.  The collection was inspired by an 80's Helmut Newton photograph; his first look a belted black silk trench worn with sheer black stockings and Louboutin black stilettos, setting the tone for a smouldering collection of skilful tailoring and dramatic dresses.  As ever Berardi showed his consummate tailoring skills, with high waisted, side split pencil skirts revealing stocking tops, super tight dresses with in-built corsetry and hourglass jackets with peaked shoulders.  A super sharp grey wool trouser suit, with kick flare trousers and peplum back jacket broke through the sea of black.  Most breathtaking though were the glorious full length lean gowns; sheer black lace or blood-red or black velvet with deep cowl backs... Red carpet, here I come.

Things we loved

- Berardi's appreciation of the female form
- glimpses of lacy corsetry beneath dramatic necklines
- sheer stockings and teetering heels
- black tuxedo dress
- in-built corsetry - a girl's best friend
