Richard Nicoll is becoming the go-to guy for women looking for easy-to-wear elegant pieces. His A/W 2010 collection - shown this morning at the cavernous underground Topshop show space in Covent Garden - will please his fans (including Girls Aloud's Nicola Roberts who sat FROW with her stylist Victoria Adcock) and no doubt win him some more, too. Inspired by his own wardrobe, Nicoll took elements of menswear - suiting fabrics, classic knits and old fashioned men's pajamas and respun them into wantable and very feminine womenswear; perfectly-tailored strapless all-in-one pant suits, floor-length bias-cut skirts in grey flannel and loose cut long line blazers in sumptuous velvet.
What we loved:
The colours. Burnished oranges, teal blue and dove grey. Dreamy.
Long lines. Ankle and floor length skirts seemed modern and fresh.
The jewellery (by Erikson Beamon). Earings and broaches made from silver bulldog clips. We want.
Velvet. So sumptious especially when teamed with gauzy semi sheer pieces.
