LFW Beauty Blogger: David Koma

Last season’s Merit Award winner, David Koma, has been catapulted into the fashion stratosphere since making his catwalk debut.  Within weeks, the Merit Award Koma’s creations were spotted on style mavens like Beyonce, Cheryl Cole and Lady Gaga, prompting the fashion press to brand him ‘King Koma’.  A CSM Harrods Design Award winner, Koma places Pierre Cardin as his primary inspiration - evident in his intelligent, architectural designs.  For AW 10, Koma will be channelling elements of geometry, chiaroscuro and Swiss surrealist, H.R. Giger, through his collection.

Inspiration:
“The look for this show was inspired by ‘The Beautiful and the Damned’.  It is very high fashion with a slightly ethereal element.  The models almost look like they have drowned – lots of wet hair and red-rimmed eyes but with a real editorial edge.”

Base:
“The skin for this look is flawless.  We created a sculpted, contoured cheek using two different shades of foundation buffed gently onto the skin using a firm buffing brush.  To allow us to create an even more contoured effect on the cheekbones, we applied concealer which gives an illusion of texture.  For a dreamy finish, we dusted highlighting powder across the eye area and finished with a slick of gloss on the cheekbones”

Eyes:
“The red eye returns to the catwalk for AW2010 although this season it is less dramatic and almost melts into the skin.  For this look, we gently stained the lids with a deep red stain allowing us to build up the colour but blend around the edges to take the harshness out of this look.  To open the eye up, there is a touch of highlighter on the inside of the eye but no mascara, just lashings of brow gel so that brows look soaked through but groomed.”

Lips:
“The lips for this look have been kept really neutral.  Concealer blended with gloss to finish off this softly, buffed look”

Benefit products used to create this look: Some Kind of Gorgeous Deep, Playsticks, Boi-ing Concealer, Speed Brow, High Brow, Powderflage, Benetint.
