NYFW Beauty Report: Derek Lam

17 February 2010

The Show: Derek Lam

Where: Capitale

The Scene:  It's snowing buckets outside which means only one thing: Fur, fur and more fur! Andre Leon Tally has just swooped backstage in swathes of the stuff, lifting it up so it doesn't drag in the snow. As we left we saw Anna Wintour’s car was being pulled over by the cops outside the show. Ooops!

Backstage Heart-throb
: None other than make-up artist Tom Pecheux.  All the models are scrambling for his attention-They just cant get enough – Lucky he’s doing so many shows!

The Look: The beauty world is loving multi-dimensional makeup this week. We couldn’t get enough of the 3D eye at DVF and today at Derek Lam, where the beauty look was inspired by the ethereal appearance of jet-set international American Indians, we saw yet another 3D offering. Tom Pecheux used Back to Blue, a clever monochromatic blue shimmer by Estee Lauder that changes colour depending on the shade sitting next to it, cleverly adding a copper beige shadow below the lower lash to give a distinctly multidimensional appearance. Lips were primed with a Crystal Beige Lauder lipstick to take on the same copper hue used on the lower lash.  Orlando Pita created soft, whispy hair, ‘ethereal with texture and movement,’ by repeatedly blow-drying drying in Morocannoil into locks until he achieved just the right amount of movement so that hair floated down the catwalk. Divine.

Hot tip
: This beauty look clashed loudly with the clothes – In fact Pecheux told us that being ‘matchy, matchy is just too ladylike' for next season…Don't forget.
