NYFW Beauty Report: Donna Karan

16 February 2010

The Show: Donna Karan

Where: Weiss Studio
The Scene: Model Hanne Gaby Odiele is tucking into pizza…oh how we’d love a couple of slices right now!  Incense is featuring very strongly backstage!

The Look: The makeup inspiration for this show is film noir and black and white film.  Think Greta Garbo with a modern twist. Charlotte Tilbury has worked up a blue elongated eye and perfectly defined red lacquer mouth. Hair is slicked back and reflective, inspired by 1960’s shop mannequins, Aled Jones’ artwork and is ever so slightly techy.
You’ll never guess what: Eugene used shiny patent black headbands on the girls which he bought in Paris five years ago. ‘I saw them and thought, they’ll come in useful one day, so I bought 50!’  The band sat low, on the hairline. ‘It’s all about different qualities of shine and the hair and texture of the band give that...It’s a bit techy because the headband doesn’t give  a 1960’s feel, it’s more like a mannequin’
How-to Tip: Blend MAC eyeshadow in Air Force Blue into the socket and extend it outwards toward the temple for a boned look. Combine MAC Pro Mixing Medium with foundation to create a shiny, dewy, waxy look.
